Mengilir, Paying Debt Each Year

Majuan worship to the Tumenggung

   Forgiveness sentences on the Talang Mamak dialect out smoothly from fez young man.
  That day was the celebration of Eid al-Adha on Wednesday (18/11) night. Patih Majuan (23), the young man, wearing a checkered shirt and sarong, while his mouth to speak. His hands worship Tuk Tumenggung who sits on the couch.

  Patih Majuan(23), newly appointed leader of the highest indigenous Talang Mamak people who live in the interior of Indragiri Hulu. He replaces Patih Gading, two months ago.
  He was doing Mengilir, a routine activity conducted twice a year. After worship, he slow back out and then hand over livestock and crops on Tuk Tumenggung.
  Then followed the Batin (head of village level) Talang Mamak yakni Batin Talang Gedabu, Talang Parit, Talang Perigi, Talang Durian Cacar, Talang Sei Limau and penghulu Anak Talang.
   After doing worship for three times, then the Mangku (representative of Mind) make offerings. Until finally Tuk Tumenggung talk and accept his offering. Following the tradition of "Mengilir" is finished, the group went on the show by eating together.
  Mengilir, on the Riau Malay language has a meaning walk downstream. For the people of Talang Mamak, Mengilir not only have the sense to walk into the downstream but also worship the king to pay the debt.
  This is done twice a year either during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Top of the celebration took place on Eid al-Adha.

  Talang Mamak community known as community land and two days before the holiday arrives, Patih, Batin and Mangku walked into downstream toward the center of the kingdom of Indragiri in Rengat.
  The Talang Mamak indigenous leaders to come to Rengat with bringing the produce of rice and vegetables and livestock in the form of chickens and goats are sacrificed to the king of Indragiri.
  Patih Talang Mamak, Majuan, said the crops and livestock is a debt that must be repaid. Similarly, the zakat in Islam, the default is to be collected at the home of kings and later the king who gave to the poor who are in the surrounding region.
  According Patih advances, debts must be paid two times a year. In addition to paying the debt, Mengilir also aims to apply salvation to the king for harvest in the future successfully.
  If this activity is not done, Talang Mamak people believe salvation is available to him in the coming year.
  "Like any sentence in Malay Language,  ke atas ndak bepucuk ke bawah ndak beurat, di tengah dilarik kumbang. Its mean you are not safe in life," he explained.
  Recognizing this, the Talang Mamak people trying to not let this tradition every year. Although acknowledged, the current indigenous Talang Mamak not solid again.
  "This celebration is usually done at the Palace when Mr Sultan and Raja Muda there. But if he does not exist, then the celebrations done elsewhere. Because ordinary people are not allowed to sit on a yellow cloth that is destined Emperor and King," he added.
  This year,this tradition not doing in Indragiri Palace, located on Lake King, Rengat. This is because the descendants of the king of Indragiri or so-called Mr. Sultan Tengku Arif was in Jakarta.
  While Viceroy Thamsir Rahman who was appointed as the representative Tengku Arif did not see again. Especially since the corruption case involving former Regent of Indragiri Hulu is sticking to the surface.
  Likewise with Tuk Mendehara Mangkubumi who resigned four years ago.So for this year, the event was centered in the home Tuk Tumenggung who have real names in Rengat Syafrizal E Ali.
   "So is the meal-feeding after worship, if there is Mr. Sultan and King then called uphold dulih. But since there are only Tuk Tumenggung, then eating is called the feast," he continued.

        After the new feast followed by greetings-congratulation or apology-forgiveness like Muslims after Eid al-Adha prayers.

       Majuan said house of worship of Talang Mamak are sultans, kings or Tumenggung home.
        Just then, the governor, the inner and Mangku ready to go home to celebrate the holiday with family.

        According Batin Talang Parit, Irasan, this is a risk of a vizier, the mind or Mangku who will never celebrate the holiday with his family.

        "Even I've never seen my newborn son on Tuesday (17/11) yesterday," he explained.

        They believe that reinforcements will come, if tradition is not implemented.

        "It's been our tradition since time immemorial, any risk then we shall do it," explained Irasan.

        Tuk Tumenggung E Ali Syafrizal said he had done this tradition since Tumenggung was appointed four years ago. He is fully responsible for the problems Talang Mamak community as a substitute for Mr. Sultan and Raja Muda.

        "Indeed, some cultures like that, would not want to be followed. Although I am now the Sultan, Raja Muda and Tumenggung already embraced Islam," he explained.

        He expects this tradition should be preserved because it is a cultural heritage. Especially the need for attention from the local government will this culture of Talang Mamak.
